Implementing Movement Parallax for Laparoscopy - Controlling zoom

The pro version of the camera that can be used for laparoscopy may have the option to zoom. At the time of this work the control over the zoom was somewhat awkward. Not only is the control difficult to find/recognize, it also requires two hands to control. Remember, the surgeon might be interested in this. The assistent has to control it, apart from holding and directing the laparoscope.

In a previous experiment we already showed the advantage of linking the horizontal head movements to the motions of the laparoscope. Question was whether a zoom would add to this.

Just for test purposes a version was constructed that linked the zoom of the camera to the head movement away from and towards the monitor.

Although not tested systematically, initial experiments gave the strong impression that providing direct control over the zoom adds to the perception of the spatial structure of the remote scenery shown on the monitor.

BTW, at the time of these images I had an old 2cv and even older Ami6, which I was spending quite some time on. Can you tell? :-)
