Implementing Movement Parallax for Laparoscopy - Final prototype

Having the principle confirmed both for observation as well as manipulation tasks a final prototype was produced. The objective of the prototype was to allow experimental validation in a practical situation.

In addition to the head coupling, the surgeon may aslo need to manipulate the laparoscope directly. To support this a 'button' was mounted on the camera, i.e. on the location most likely to be grasped by the surgeon. Simply grabbing the laparoscope would remove the link between motions of the laparoscope and head movement of the surgeon, allowing for free manipulation. Releasing the laparoscope wouldrestore the link, taking the new position as 'center point'. This worked beautifully intuitive.
The problem of mounting the circular guide to the operation table also had to be resolved. This is described on a different page.
The complete system was tested in a practical situation by an experienced experimental surgeon of the Amsterdam Medical Center (ACM).
